College Baseball Futures Update – April 8th

Welcome to the weekly Future Update report, a look at our current portfolio of investments to win Omaha. The goal is to assess each team midweek, determining if the market has value with regards to winning the College World Series. Every week I will publish a Futures Top 10, a ranking that will focus on the value of the number and not so much on who can win Omaha. Although Tennessee is the best team in College Baseball, the better number for investment may reside in another team.

Here is our Top 10 Ranking of the best College Baseball futures (odds per DraftKings):

Notes for the latest Top 10:

  • The biggest question coming from the previous weekend is the Texas A&M +5000 series victory at Tennessee +400. While the comparisons will be made to a deep Omaha run in 2024 by the Florida Gators, there are plenty of reasons for further inspection on the Aggies. A team xFIP of 5.42 against a staff ERA of 4.19 shows that the pitching has been fortunate. The Aggies were blanked in the series opener, as ace Ryan Prager gave up 9 hits with a crucial error that inflated the score. Although Lamkin and Patton had quality starts during the Saturday doubleheader victory, Texas A&M still gave up 19 hits for the day.
There is still work for the Aggies even after a jump in RPI to 60th. Road series at Arkansas, Texas and Georgia are still on tap. While Missouri should be a sweep, the next two home stands against South Carolina and LSU are make or break weekends. A 50/1 wager is the future of the week, but a remaining strength of schedule at 8th could keep MLB’s next bomber in Jace Laviolette at home during Regionals.
  • A scoop of Georgia +1100 and Arkansas +900 at better numbers will face off this upcoming weekend. The Razorbacks swept Vanderbilt in Nashville, but must continue the hot hitting in Athens. Arkansas is 5th in Home Runs per Nine while the Bulldogs are best in the nation.
  • The best time to buy Mississippi State +9000 will come after a road series at Alabama +2000 this weekend. The Bulldogs have the easiest remaining strength of schedule of any SEC team by far. Kentucky, Missouri, Ole Miss and Auburn should provide coach Chris Lemonis an easier path to potentially host a regional at Dudy Noble.
  • Welcome to the Top 10 Georgia Tech +4000! The Yellow Jackets swept Stanford on the road with two of the easier ACC opponents lined up in California and Miami. Georgia Tech is top 25 in Home Runs per Nine while maintaining a top 6 rank nationally in Doubles, Slugging, On-Base and Scoring. Ace Mason Patel is due for regression with a 4.72 xFIP against a 1.66 ERA, but the offense is tearing the cover off the ball.
